Pre-release tips - April 2022 - updated

Updated 20/2/26

Greetings,

Here some requests and tips in order that we can set up a new release for you.  This is a quick "check list" of requests and tips including ideas for pre-release press releases from labels - and related points, - for DIGITAL releases.

NEW RELEASE REQUIREMENTS

We need the following from you.

1 - The music master in >.WAV format. Tech errors occur from time to time, usually in the re-mastering and encoding stage. These can be corrected post release but when you supply music masters take note of the current trends and standards for digital releases. These include the so-called LUF (loudness) standards.

2- Name of the release (if an album) and name of the artist. Label name if not using one of our in-house labels. For those producers whose music (and visuals) we distribute on their own labels, please note that we are obliged to meet our partner's rules on technical, moral, political and legal standards. For this reason we reserve the right to refuse any production entry to our network of platforms and those of our partners. Advise us if there is explicit content before we upload to the distribution server.

3 - A spreadsheet with the metadata must accompany the masters. This should include track titles, ISRCs (if you have), composer credits, publisher credits, primary artist name and names of any featured artists you want to credit on each track, producer credits, language of the text if with lyrics, owner of the recording, country of recording and any (p) & (c) info you want used.

4 -  A sleeve visual 3000 x 3000 pixels at minimum 72 pixel res. RGB.

TIPS

1 - Take care not to list your music in the internet  - anywhere - until we have a release date for the music. This is because we like to have the music "fingerprinted" before it gets shared and circulated and it is, so to speak, out of the bag without identification. In fact I would say generally your pre-release listings should not be public before the release date.

2 - Send us your project press release at least 2 weeks before release and do so as plain text and pics so we can build the releases into your online link for platforms. You can also send your press release as a PDF and we will include this in the online announcement post release, in your chosen format.

What we include in our announcement for platforms is what we consider interesting for them to list your music, and we reserve editorial exclusivity. Your press release should however not be longer than one A4 side. You can always do a post release press release with more detailed artist info etc.

Note that your post release press releases should also be copied to us please.

3 - When listing or posting your music in the internet please include the rights info - eg. (p) and (c) - particularly on the first release. Of course the name of the song and the artist is also essential. Any other credits are also useful but take care not to contradict the (p) and (c) credits. If you are unsure please check with us.

4 - We try to send out to you, a promo link to the server of one of our partners pre-release. If you could please approve this within a week of us sending it we would be much obliged. Your failure to approve the info and sound quality shown in these links will delay your release.

5 - Talk to us about categorisation of genre and style, playlist pitching and target release date.

Good luck with your new releases,

Patrick Lee-Thorp
