March 2024
Greetings,
I hope 2024 is treating you all well.
Here are some more points of interest that we would like to put in this latest circular to you.
1 - Square. Artwork used by the platforms in listings should be supplied in a square format please. Technically - 3000 x 3000 pixels in a minimum of 72 pixel resolution. We can alter images for you if you provide artwork in other sizes but this can lead to unwanted mistakes so we prefer to receive artwork in the correct format.
2 - Download.
To my surprise there are still songs and even whole albums being downloaded
by fans. It is
nothing like in the pre-streaming days but it does still happen. For
this
reason we continue to offer downloads through those platforms like
iTunes/Apple Music, Amazon, etc. who are willing to do download
business. On our marketing links we send out - the landing pages on new
releases - we usually provide at least one download service in the list.
BTW - Don't forget to request these landing page links.

3 - New Rates. We have heard that there will be changes in the listings and
visibility of listed titles on several platforms in 2024. This will start on the Apple and Spotify
platforms and will have repercussions on advertising usage
rates (as well is titles with low streaming demand - simply earning nothing) and therefore revenue for 2024 could be well down for indie streaming music. Our suggestion is to get fans to stream your new releases until you get over the 1000 streams threshold. That is not difficult and it might force the hand that accounts ....
4 - Publishing revenue. It is worth repeating that you must go to your collection societies for mechanical (and performance) publishing revenue. Nobody pays the distributor for this sort of license so you will not hear from us in this regard. We set up the publishing credits and indicate the license obligations pre-release, but we do not collect that license revenue.
5 - 2023 Licenses. Reports are going out now (in the first quarter). If you are missing any sales data please report this to us and we can run reports for missing titles very easily and add these to your license accounting. The data is all there but we can sometimes overlook some rights holder links without intending to. This can specially occur when you make changes in your label credit.
Remember
please let us have an invoice with your latest bank
details, otherwise we will pay to the last bank account listed in our
system, should we still have one in our system.
6 - Data for Marketing. We
can supply fairly detailed track usage data for marketing, on request.
See the pic above for an example of the kind of graphic details
available. This can be filtered by territory, release, artist and even
track.
Best wishes,
Patrick
